What NOT to do (common mistakes we see)
Neurology visits are time-limited.
Avoiding these mistakes helps us focus on diagnosis and next steps — not cleanup.
Avoid this:
1. Don’t rely on memory alone
Bring a written medication list (or photos of pill bottles).
Doses, frequency, and supplements matter.
2. Don’t come without the imaging report ✅
If you’ve had an MRI or CT, please bring the written report.
We can access some images through hospital/imaging portals, but not all — and we cannot view CDs in the office.
3. Don’t tell your entire life story first
Start with the problem that brought you in today.
We’ll ask about the rest if needed.
4. Don’t assume your records are already in our system
Even within the same health system, records don’t always transfer automatically.
If it’s important, bring it.
5. Don’t minimize or exaggerate symptoms
Be honest about what’s changed, what’s improved, and what hasn’t.
Details help us help you.
6. Don’t forget videos if symptoms come and go
Short phone videos of spells, tremor, walking changes, or events can be extremely helpful.
7. Don’t wait months to mention new changes
New memory, behavior, balance, or weakness changes should be shared — even if they seem subtle.
✔️ Preparation helps avoid delays, repeat visits, and unnecessary testing.
