A recent study has found that people with chronic pain in various parts of the body have a higher risk of developing dementia. Researchers found that neurocognitive abnormality increased with each additional pain site.

Although more research is necessary, this study helps us understand the impact of chronic pain on cognitive function. Multisite chronic pain can be burdensome on the brain, and lead to faster cognitive decline, including memory, attention, and learning abilities.
